Be yourself, as the speaker, you
are the centre of the presentation.
Your visuals and handouts are for support only. It's important
to look and sound comfortable and to come across as honest
and believable. The easiest way to do this is to be yourself.
Voice
Are you a strong, dynamic speaker? Use your own voice to
provide the attention getting drama and emphasis needed
to make important points. Support them with visual aids.
Presence
If you have a strong presence, or are agile, take advantage.
Move around during the presentation. Do live demonstration,
be animated when talking and use gesture to highlight your
main points.
Style
Attempting to be strong and dynamic when you really are
not works against your believability. How do you communicate
with friends? Use that style in your presentation.
Humour
An amusing anecdote can put your audience at its ease.
If you are good at telling humourous stories, use this to
your advantage. But make sure the stories are relevant and
will not offend anybody in the audience. And if it is not
your natural talent, don't attempt humour.
